St. Mary School Open House is Sunday, January 29 from 12:15 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. kindergarten through eighth grade and a Montessori preschool program for ages three to six. January Service Project – “Visit and Care for the Sick”
Continuing in the spirit of the Corporal Works of Mercy, the January service project will support the Grace Guest House in South Buffalo, an organization assisting families who are away from home as a result of a medical crisis. Care packages are given to people who are saying at Grace Guest House while their loved ones are receiving treatment in local hospitals. Suggested items: travel size soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrush, body lotion, hand sanitizer, tissues, coloring books and crayons, markers and puzzle books. Please place your donations in the large bin in the Parish Center vestibule.
Ryan Verity Named Parish Business Manager
Ryan Verity has been appointed Business Manager for St. Mary Parish. For the past five years, Verity has served as St. Mary’s youth minister, creating two vibrant youth groups for high school and middle school and establishing the youth room in the Parish Center. He was also instrumental in sending three teenagers from the parish to Poland for World Youth Day during the summer of 2016. In addition, Verity helped develop the annual Chowder Chase 5K Run, served as co-chairperson of the parish picnic and designed a successful overnight retreat for confirmation candidates, have done for over 650 teens.
“My biggest accomplishment, I hope, was being a good role model and teacher to our young church,” Verity said.
A native of Western New York and former student at St. Mary School, Verity worked in family-owned restaurants since age 14 and became general manager for Burger King and Taco Bueno at the age of 20.Verity holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Oklahoma and a Master of Business Administration from Medaille College.
“My main objective, as it always has been, is to keep our parish vibrant, engaging, and welcoming for the generations to come,” Verity said. “I will work diligently with our wonderful staff to accomplish that goal. I am very blessed to be able to work at the same place I grew up in.”
Little Rock Bible Study – Spring Semester
“The Eucharist in Scripture” is the topic of the Little Rock Scripture Study Spring Semester which begins on January 3. This study will deepen your understanding of the Eucharist as you come to the Lord’s table, as well as create a greater appreciation sharing meals with family and in fellowship. The 12-week program includes a text, student guide and DVD presentations. Sessions begin Tuesday, January 3 in rooms 106-107 from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and the cost is $15. 150th Anniversary of St. Mary’s Chapel
Bishop Richard J. Malone presided at the 150th Anniversary Mass for the St. Mary’s Chapel on Saturday, October 22. Fr. Yetter, Fr. Andrew, Msgr. Vince Becker, former pastor, and Msgr. Paul Burkard, pastor of Our Lady of Victory Basilica who grew up in St. Mary’s Parish, concelebrated the Mass.
Teen/Adult Faith Enrichment Opportunity
– An online faith enrichment program for adults and teens begins in September. Scheduled group meetings will be held on Tuesdays and will be supplemented by virtual home study and discussion for those who cannot attend the meetings. Lessons and discussion forums are available at FaithEnrichment.org.
– Members of the Family Faith Sharing group who would like to use this study option, parishioners interested in a faith enrichment opportunity and non-parishioners who are interested in learning about Catholicism are welcome to participate.
