Mrs. Larson

This Tuesday we are welcoming & getting to know our new AIS Reading & Math teacher, Mrs. Larson! We are so pleased that she has joined us here at SMS and will be working with our students offering support for their literacy & math skills. Check out some of the interesting facts that she provided below, as well as the wealth of experience she brings to the position!

Name: Janet Larson

Grades/Classes you teach: AIS Reading and Math

Experience: I have taught and done just about everything you can in a school so far!  I started as a Teacher Assistant, worked as a Reading Specialist, and then taught Social Studies, Religion, Literature, and Chorus at St. Amelia's.  I then worked as an Assistant Principal and Principal for about 6 years.  I have my Masters in Literacy so I am so excited to be able to use that knowledge again in the classroom!

Spouse/children/pets: My husband, Ryan, and I have been married for 11 years.  Although we haven't had children, we have some amazing cats that we love!  Their names are Mary, Mabel, and Murphy.

Hobbies/talents: Some of my favorite things to do are read, do puzzles, and listen to music.  My absolute FAVORITE thing is spending time with my niece and nephews.  We love to go on "coffee" dates (we drink hot chocolate), watch silly videos on Youtube, and dance!

Favorite food: I'm a sucker for dill pickles and diet wild cherry Pepsi.

Something you always tell your students: It takes bravery and strength to learn - the bravery to try and the strength to work through our mistakes.

Which unconventional animal do you wish you could have as a pet: When I was in seventh grade, I got the chance to take care of a baby goat for a day and I have loved goats ever since.  I would LOVE to have a goat as a pet!
