Dr. Tom Cumbo was honored by Bishop Michael Fisher as the St. Mary's Church, Swormville, recipient of the 2025 St. Joseph the (Lay) Worker Award at St. Joseph's Cathedral on Saturday, March 28, 2025.
Tom and his wife, Anne, have been parishioners of St. Mary's since 2013. Tom always has a smile and a kind word to share with those he encounters. He has selflessly given of his talents and time to our parish and we are grateful.
Tom is an accomplished musician who plays both organ an piano at daily Masses and at the 7:30 AM Sunday Mass. He participated in the Men's Christ Renews His Parish Retreat and served on the Christ Renews Welcome Continuation Committee. Believing that our Catholic church must feel welcoming to those that enter our doors, he began St. Mary's Hospitality Ministry. Tom is also the chairperson of the Bereavement Committee which accompanies those that have experienced a death as they plan the funeral service for their loved one.
In his capacity as a medical doctor, Tom served as St. Mary's COVID Committee Chairperson throughout the pandemic. He spent countless hours ensuring that parishioners and school children were safe and standards were met. He and Anne (who is a nurse) volunteered, alongside other medical professionals from the ranks of our St. Mary School parents to conduct multiple COVID screening sessions for the school children and staff so that learning could continue at our school.
Thank you, Dr. Tom, for all that you have done for St. Mary's parish and school!
