COME AND PRAY, VENERATE THE RELICS OF THE APOSTLES AND THE TRUE CROSS THIS LENT AT THE SHRINE
Holy Relics Exposition and Veneration for the faithful in our Diocese will start in April every First Saturday at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Diocesan Shrine. Mass will begin at 8am followed by First Saturday Devotional Prayers and Holy Rosary. Immediately following we will expose for veneration every month a new collection of the Shrines amazing collection of holy relics.
Relics are physical objects (pieces of a saints body or articles of clothing that have a direct association with the saints or with God. First Class Relics are the body or fragments of the body of a saint.
Bring your own articles of devotion such as your rosary, holy cards, cross and medals to be able to touch the reliquary as means of intercessory prayer. When you touch a first class relic with your own devotional item, your item now becomes a third class relic. Our veneration of relics, reminds us that we are part of the Communion of Saints. Venerating a relic dates back to the beginnings of the Church but Churches didn’t start exposing relics until the 1100’s.
IN APRIL, THE SHRINE will have 12 FIRST CLASS RELICS OF THE APOSTLES ALONG WITH THE TRUE CROSS for veneration:
St. Andrew
St. Bartholomew
St. James the Lesser
St. James Major
St. John
St. Jude Thaddeus
St. Matthew
St. Paul
St. Peter
St. Simon
St. Thomas
and A RELIC OF THE TRUE CROSS.
Come and join us to pray through intercessory prayer to one of these powerful HOLY SAINTS and venerate the True Cross of Christ this Lent.
